HANDING OVER OF JAPAN’S EMERGENCY RELIEF GOODS TO THE VICTIMS OF FLOODING

The Counsellor, at the Embassy of Japan, Mr. Takeshi Tanabe will hand over the Japan’s emergency relief goods to the Representative of the Government of the Republic of the Fiji at the Nadi Airport, at 10.00am, on Tuesday 31 January 2012. The Fiji Government Representative will receive the goods on behalf of the victims of the flooding in Fiji.

The Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods consisting of 100 Tents, 100 plastic sheets and 2400 portable jerry cans, worth 18 million Japanese Yen which is approximately equivalent to 414 Thousand Fiji Dollars (FJ$414,000) to the victims of the flooding in Fiji.

The Government and the people of Japan have long shared a strong friendship with the Government and people of Fiji, and such friendship together with Japan’s compassion for the victims of the flooding has resulted in the provision of the relief items.

The Government and people of Japan hope that with the strong determination and resilience of the people of Fiji, combined with the support of the State and the international community, Fiji will be able to make a quick recovery from the suffering and destruction caused by the flooding.
