» Japan Provides New Classrooms to Saraswati Primary School

The Government of Japan continues to provide development assistance to the education sector, which benefits Educational Institutions in Fiji. The Saraswati Primary School will celebrate the opening of facilities that were funded under the Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) programme.

The Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Kenro Iino will be at Saraswati Primary School on Tuesday, 30th November 2004 at 10.00 a.m. to officially open the two (2) classrooms building.

Saraswati Primary School is a multiracial school providing education from classes 1 to 8 to over 350 students from the surrounding areas of Nakasi, Davuilevu Housing, Dilkusha, Sawani, Navuso and Naitasiri. The school had faced problem of shortage of classrooms because of increasing school roll.

The Government of Japan under the GGP scheme provided a grant of US$27,802.00 (approx. F$47,000.00) to the school to cover for the building materials and construction costs for the 2 classroom block.

Japan's assistance to the school is in line with its Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy of prioritising projects that target the development of basic education in Fiji. The Government of Japan anticipates to assist more educational institutions in the future.
