» Japan Provides New Classrooms to Sanatan Dharm Primary School

The Government of Japan has provided a two (2) classroom building block worth US$27,802.00 (approximately F$46,000.00) for Sanatan Dharm Primary School under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme.

The Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Kenro Iino will officially open the new building block at 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday, 22nd June 2005 at Sanatan Dharm Primary School, Visama, Nausori.

Sanatan Dharm Primary School is a multiracial school providing education from classes 1 to 8 to over 250 students from the surrounding areas of Visama. The school had faced problems with the shortage of classrooms due to increasing school roll.

Japan's assistance to Sanatan Dharm Primary School indicates its commitment to contribute to the improvement of the education sector in the Fiji Islands and is in line with its Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy of promoting development through good education at the grassroots level. The GGP programme is specifically designed to address basic human needs, which include water supply, health, basic education, vocational training, sanitary environment and rural infrastructure. It is hoped that this assistance will help further strengthen the friendly ties between the governments and the people of the Fiji Islands and Japan.
