» Japan Provides Funds to Three (3) Projects in the Republic of Vanuatu
Embargo: Friday, 7 July 2006The Government of Japan is pleased to announce the approval of grants totalling US$145,002 for three (3) projects in the Republic of in Vanuatu.
The Grant Contracts, formalizing Japan’s assistance, were signed between the recipient organisations and Mr. Hiroshi Watanabe, the Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, on Friday 7th July 2006 at the Department of Foreign Affairs office in the Republic of Vanuatu.

Japan’s assistance to these projects indicates its continual commitment
to the Government and people of Vanuatu in contributing to the improvement
of the living standards and welfare of the people, and the development of
the nation as a whole. These projects are in line with Japan’s commitment
made at the 2006 PALM in May by the Japanese Prime Minister, Mr. Junichiro
Koizumi, and the Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy which is sourced
from Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP)
programme. The GGP programme is specifically designed to address basic human
needs, which include water supply, health, basic education, vocational training
and rural infrastructure. It is hoped that this assistance will help further
strengthen friendly ties between the governments and the people of Vanuatu
and Japan.
