The Project for Upgrading of Balata High School

A sum of US$28,375.00 (approx. F$48,000.00) will be provided to the school to undertake this project. The project constitutes construction of a double storey two (2) classroom block and provision of school furniture. The new facilities will assist the school to commence Form 7 education for students from the Balata and its surrounding area. The new facilities will also be used for teaching split classes for students taking different subjects. It is anticipated that each year around 40 students will directly benefit from this project.

Japan’s assistance to this project indicates its commitment to contribute to the improvement of the living standards and welfare of people in Fiji Islands and is in line with its Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy of promoting development at the grassroots level. The GGP programme is specifically designed to address basic human needs, which include water supply, health, basic education, vocational training, sanitary environment and rural infrastructure. It is hoped that this assistance will help further strengthen the friendly ties between the governments and the people of Fiji Islands and Japan.
