» Japan Provides Equipment to the Film and Television Unit
The Government of Japan, under its Cultural Grant Aid Programme, will provide Video Shooting and Editing Equipment worth ¥49 600 000 (forty-nine million and six hundred thousand yen) which is approximately FJ$771 024 (seven hundred and seventy one thousand and twenty four Fiji dollars ) to the Film and Television Unit of the Ministry of Information, Communications and Media Relations. The donation has been made under Japan’s Cultural Grant Aid Programme. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Kaliopate Tavola and the Ambassador of Japan, H. E. Kenro Iino will sign and exchange notes formalizing Japan’s commitment towards the Project at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade at 09.30am, on Monday 06 September 2004.
The added technology will enable the Film and Television Unit to enhance the quality of programmes besides expanding the current production capacity of the Unit. Gradually, entire Fiji will benefit by viewing better and improved documentaries and vernacular programmes focusing on socio-economic, cultural and environmental issues.
Japan’s Cultural Grant Aid programme is a vital component of its overall ODA (Official Development Assistance) programme and it is provided to Fiji to further develop the promotion and preservation of national heritage, culture and education.
This grant is an added milestone in Japan’s ongoing support and cooperation towards Fiji and reflects friendly relationship between the Governments of Japan and Fiji.
