Japan Provides Emergency Relief Assistance to the People of Fiji

Handover to the National Disaster Management Office:
The Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief items to the flood victims of Fiji. The items consist of sleeping pads, water tanks, water containers and blankets worth, 10 million Japanese Yen (approximately FJ$199,000), including air freight costs. Upon arrival at the Nadi Airport, the items will be handed over to representatives of the National Disaster Management Office, and will be distributed to the flood victims of Fiji.

Contribution to the Fiji Red Cross Society:
The staff of the Embassy of Japan, the staff of JICA Fiji, JICA experts and volunteers in Fiji and Japanese Business Representatives involved in Japan’s ODA Project’s in Fiji have jointly collected a sum of FJ$ 5270.00. The money was presented by the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr Yutaka Yoshizawa and the Resident Representative of JICA Fiji, Mr Juichiro Sasaki to the Director General of the Fiji Red Cross Society, Ms Alison Cupit, at 3pm, on Friday 16th January 2009.

The Government and the people of Japan convey their deepest sympathies to the people of Fiji, especially those in the flood stricken regions and hope that the people of Fiji succeed in managing a quick recovery from the suffering and destruction caused by this natural disaster.
