» Japan Provides Ambulance to Rabi Health Centre
The Government of Japan has provided one (1) second hand ambulance, worth US$10,722.00 (approximately F$17,000.00), to the Rabi Health Centre under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme.
The Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Kenro Iino will officially hand over the ambulance to the representatives of the Rabi Council of Leaders at 2.30 p.m. on Monday, 02nd May 2005 at the Ketetemane Methodist Church in Suva.
It is anticipated that the provision of an ambulance to Rabi Health Centre will ease the difficulties the people of Rabi face in having access to medical attention, particularly in the event of emergency. The ambulance would service the Rabi population of approximately 5000 people.
Japan’s assistance to this project indicates its commitment to contribute to the improvement of the living standards and welfare of people in Fiji and is in line with its Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy of promoting development at the grassroots level. The GGP programme is specifically designed to address basic human needs, which include water supply, health, basic education, vocational training and rural infrastructure. It is hoped that this assistance will help further strengthen the friendly ties between the governments and the people of Fiji and Japan.
