» Japan Helps Upgrade Police Equipment
The Fiji Police Force has been boosted with a donation of 17 motor cycles equipped with hand-held radio kits worth US$129,664 (approx. F$212,563) from the Government of Japan. These motor cycles and radio kits will be presented to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Andrew Hughes, by the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Kenro Iino, at a handing-over ceremony to be held at the Police Academy, at 11:00 am on Wednesday 7 July 2004.
These motor cycles and radio kits will enhance the Fiji Police Force services to the citizens of urban-area police posts located in Flagstaff, Vatuwaqa, Tamavua, Nakasi and downtown Suva.
Japan's assistance is in response to continued calls from all quarters of Fiji's public for better services, which can only be delivered if the human resources of the force are complemented with sufficient capital resources. It is hoped that the new equipment will enable the Fiji Police Force to provide better services to the people of Fiji. The donation was made available under Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) programme.
