» Japan Funds for 5 projects

The Government of Japan will provide a grant aid funds totalling US$ 153,408(approx. F$ 252,300) for the upgrading of facilities for 2 rural schools and a rural town, and the procurement of 2 special vehicles.

Grant Contracts formalizing Japan's assistance will be signed between representatives of the recipient organizations and H.E. Mr.Kenro Iino, the Ambassador of Japan to Fiji, at 11:00am on Thursday 17th June 2004 at the Embassy of Japan in Suva. The funds will be made available under Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) programme.

Details on the individual projects are:

1. Upgrading of Naduna District School, Naitasiri-US$23,347(approx. F$37,400)
2. Upgrading of Burenitu Village School, Serua-US$19,943(approx. F$32,000)
3. Improvement of Sanitary Environment in Tavua Town-US$49,974 (approx. F$83,000)
4. Provision of School Bus for Fiji School for the Blind-US$49,372 (approx. F$82,000)
5. Provision of Second-hand Ambulance for Rabi Health Center-US$10,772(approx. F$17,900)

Japan's GGP programme has its priority areas of funding such as education, human welfare, basic health care, and environment conservation.
