Vacancy – Independent Contractor for GGP Coordination
The Embassy of Japan is seeking a full-time Independent Contractor for GGP Coordination to work in the Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation Section, based at Embassy’s office in Suva.
DUTIES
The GGP Independent Contractor will be responsible for the following tasks related to the implementation of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (“GGP”) in Fiji, Nauru, Tuvalu and Kiribati.

The GGP Independent Contractor will be responsible for the following tasks related to the implementation of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (“GGP”) in Fiji, Nauru, Tuvalu and Kiribati.
1. Projects Management and Administration
- Conduct detailed research and assessments of shortlisted GGP applications and proposed projects, ensuring that they are aligned with the national development priorities of the respective countries and Japan’s development cooperation policies.
- Prepare the necessary documentation and coordinate arrangements related to the signing of Grant Contracts.
- Monitor the implementation of GGP projects, including preparing monthly reports, following up on pending issues, conducting site visits, and coordinating preparations for project handover ceremonies.
- Draft official speeches, press releases and other public relations materials related to GGP projects.
2. Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with project recipients, government ministries, NGOs, financial institutions and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support the collection of relevant information, photographs, & project updates for reporting and public relations purposes.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to enquiries regarding GGP.
- Perform other duties related to GGP coordination and administration as required.
The successful candidate should have:
- At least 3 years of relevant professional experience including engagement with both public- and private-stakeholders;
- Experience in project management, monitoring and administration;
- A strong commitment to economic and social development;
- Strong analytical, organizational and writing skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
- Excellent written and spoken English skills;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds;
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines;
- Willingness and ability to undertake official travel, including to remote islands and other countries;
- Availability to commence the contract on 2nd November 2026; and
- A commitment to undertaking GGP-related duties on a full-time basis.
