On 25 September 2025, the official handover ceremony for“The Project for Improvement of the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development(CATD)” under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme was held. In the presence of Honorable Infereimi Vasu, Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ambassador MICHII handed over the furnished classroom building and a dormitory, valued at approximately FJ$1.04 million, to CATD.
CATD is a facility providing vocational training in carpentry, plumbing, welding, two-stroke engine maintenance, and automotive repair for young people aged approximately 16 to 35. Prior to this project, a shortage of classrooms meant that spaces intended for theoretical learning were also used for practical training, posing health and safety risks. Furthermore, limited dormitory capacity restricted the number of students who could participate in vocational programs. This facility upgrade is expected to significantly improve the learning environment and is anticipated to strengthen the educational framework of CATD going forward.
Ambassador Michii stated “I hope this school building and dormitory will serve young people and the local community for many years to come”, and extended his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the project.
