The Signing of Exchange of Notes for the “Project for the Development of Regional Centre for the Improvement of Meteorological Services and Disaster Risk Reduction in the Pacific Island funded under the Government of Japan’s General Grant Aid program.

On 27 March 2025, H.E Mr. Rokuichiro MICHII, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, and the Honourable Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport of the Republic of Fiji, signed an Exchange of Notes for the Project for the Development of Regional Centre for the Improvement of Meteorological Services and Disaster Risk Reduction in the Pacific Island funded under Japan’s General Grant Aid program.
The project will support the construction of a state-of-the-art meteorological facility to not only serve the meteorological needs of the Fijian Government but also serve the Governments in the Pacific region. The project will include but limited to the construction of a;
- Training facilities compliant with WMO guidelines;
- Calibration facility for meteorological instruments in accordance with WMO guidelines and instrument calibration services within Fiji and the Pacific countries.
- Library for Storing and viewing books, records, etc. related to meteorology.
Honourable Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport emphasized in his remark, while acknowledging Japan’s assistance, highlighted that this is the first strengthening disaster prevention and early warning systems in Fiji and the Pacific region under the “Co-Creation for Common Agenda Initiative”
