The Exchange of Notes Signing the “Project for Improvement of Aviation Safety Facilities at Major Airports"

On September 18, in Suva, the capital of the Republic of Fiji, H.E. Mr. Rokuichiro MICHII, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, and the Honourable Sitiveni L. Rabuka, Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Climate Change, Environment, Civil Service, Information, Public Enterprises, and Veteran Affairs, signed and exchanged notes for the “Project for Improvement of Aviation Safety Facilities at Major Airports” worth 1.29 Billion Japanese Yen or approximately $21 million Fijian dollars.
The objective of the project is to improve the safety of aircraft operations and contribute to improving transport infrastructure capacity and sustainable growth. The project entails the provision of equipment and technical support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The equipment includes the followings;
- Two VHF Omnidirectional Radio Beacons or Distance Measuring Equipment VOR/DME);
- Five Airport Fire Engines; and
- Three Rescue Boats.
