The Hand-Over of Ice Making Machines to Lautoka Fishing Port, funded under the Government of Japan’s Economic Social Development Programme (ESDP)”
2023/8/30

On August 30, 2023, a Handover ceremony for the “Provision of Ice Making Machines” procured under the Government of Japan’s Economic and Social Development Programme (ESDP), was held at the Lautoka Fishery Port.
Mr. YAMADA Yosuke, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, handed over the Ice Making machines to Ms. Atelaite Rokosuka, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Fisheries.
The Lautoka Fishery Port is the largest fishery port in Fiji, and handles about 80% of the country's total catch. The Ice Making machines provided are worth approximately 1.3 million FJD and can make up to 3 tons of ice plate per day, making it possible to provide enough ice to Fishermen using the Lautoka fishery port. This will contribute to keeping the catch fresh and boost fishermen's income. The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ms. Atelaite Rokosuka expressed her gratitude to Japan for the assistance whilst also acknowledging Japan’s previous support to Fiji's fisheries sector.
