Signing of the Exchange of Notes for the “Project for Supporting Digital Health System for Infectious Diseases Control in the Pacific Islands Countries” and handing over of cold chain equipment

On March 6th, 2023 at the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services center, Exchange of Notes were signed between H.E. Mr. Fumihiro Kawakami, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Fiji, and Mr. Jonathan Veitch, UNICEF Representative for Pacific Island Countries, in the presence of the Minister of Health and Medical Services, Honourable Dr. Atonia Lalabalavu, regarding the grant assistance of 1.248billion yen towards " Supporting Digital Health System for Infectious Diseases Control in the Pacific Islands Countries ". This cooperation is expected to contribute to the promotion of universal health coverage and the revitalization of socioeconomic activities by providing health facilities in four Pacific island countries (Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji) with a digital health system to manage various vaccination information to respond to public health threats, including COVID19.
On the same day, cold chain equipment, including a large walk-in cooler for storing vaccines and other items, was handed over from another UNICEF partnership project.
