Bilateral Relations » Japan’s ODA Policy to the Pacific Region
Japan has been supporting the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) members’ efforts for sustainable development to assist member countries with socio-economic needs and respond to the challenges faced by Forum Island Countries, such as small-scale economies, dependence on primary industries, geographic dispersion, lack of access to international markets, vulnerability to natural disasters, and others.
Japan has also been hosting the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM), at an interval of every three years since 1997. As 2012 is such a year again, Japan hosted PALM 6 from May 25 to 26 at the Bankoku Shinryokan, Nago City in Okinawa, and the Okinawa “Kizuna” Declaration was adopted during PALM 6.
