- The Project for Rehabilitation of Fire Station
The Government of Japan will provide a sum of US$84,811.00 for renovation works and expansion of fire station in Yaren district in Nauru. The funding will be sourced from Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme.
The Grant Contract formalising Japan’s assistance will be signed between His Excellency, Mr Kennan Adeang, Nauru High Commissioner to the Republic of the Fiji Islands and His Excellency, Mr Masashi Namekawa, the Ambassador of Japan to Nauru, at 6:30 p.m. on 21st September 2007 at the Ambassador’s Residence in Suva, Fiji.
Fire stations provide their services not only to stop the fire, but also to save properties and, more importantly, saving precious lives. Based on circumstances, the Government of Japan decided to provide funding assistance for renovation works and expansion of Yaren fire station for efficient fire services to save lives and properties during times of emergency.
This assistance is the second project since inception of Government of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects programme to Nauru. The GGP programme is specifically designed to address basic human needs, which include water supply, health, basic education, vocational training, sanitary environment and rural infrastructure.
It is hoped that this assistance will help further strengthen the friendly ties between the governments and the people of Nauru and Japan.
