Principal of Sacred Heart High School – Mrs. Zita Teata,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Mauri! (Hello)

It gives me a great pleasure to present here today to hand over the science laboratory to Sacred Heart High School. Thank you all for the warm welcome extended to me and my colleague.

Science is a subject of foundation for creation. The science laboratory here will be a great contribution for building such foundations for prospective young people.

Japan strongly believes Education is a vital force of moving forward island countries like Kiribati. In fact, the Government of Japan has been assisting school projects through GGP program.

In Japanese fiscal year 2009, Japanese Government assisted in total of 3 school projects in Tarawa such as Stephen Whitmee High school, Aratokotoko Primary School and your school. Furthermore, many people still clearly remember the name of Dai Nippon Primary School took after from the hard working Japanese people. Japanese Government helped this school to build classroom in 2008.

In addition, Japan also despatched a JICA volunteer to your school as a science teacher this year. Mr. Hiraoka’s existence, experiences and active involvement to the school activities must be making Japan’s ODA policy more meaningful.
