Japan Assists Rara District School with Two New Classrooms

The Government of Japan has been continuously providing funding assistance for major capital development projects in schools throughout Fiji. The community of Rara District School in Vunidawa, Naitasiri witnessed the handing-over of the newly constructed two classrooms funded by the Government of Japan under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme. The First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan, Mr. Tatsushi Matsuo represented the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Yutaka Yoshizawa in the official handing-over ceremony of the new classroom facilities at Rara District School to be held at 11.00 am on Thursday, 25th February, 2010. In September, 2009, Japan provided funding assistance of $124,500.00, for construction of the new two classroom block at Rara District School. Rara District School is predominantly a Fijian School established in 1967 to cater for children from the Rara clan comprising of three villages, namely, Naluwai, Waidracia and Nasavu. The school have faced shortage of classrooms and utilised an old teacher’s quarter and a temporary classroom to accommodate increasing number of children entering Rara District School. The School is optimistic that with opening of two new facilities, there will be adequate classroom space available for the children of Rara to achieve quality education and academic excellence. The new building will ensure an environment conducive for learning for the 160 children currently enrolled in the school. |
