JAPANESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2010
The Government of Japan continues to award scholarships annually that benefit Fiji citizens.
The Japanese Government has recently announced and awarded seven scholarships (six Research/Postgraduate and one Professional Training) this year. Five scholarships have been awarded to Fiji nationals, one to Kiribati and one to Tuvalu nationals respectively. Three recipients of the scholarships will depart for Japan on Friday, 2nd April and two on Monday, 5th April to further their studies in their chosen fields respectively while two more recipients will depart in October.
Taking up the awards this April from Fiji are Mr. Tekini Nakidakida Ucuboi who will be entering the Master’s Program in Agro-bio-resources Science and Technology at the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Science of the University of Tsukuba. Mr. Emosi Koroitamana will further his Mechanical Engineering study at the Graduate School of Engineering at Kyushu University while Mr. Baljeet Esira Dokoni Singh will study Electrical Trade and Electronics at Yomiuri College in Tokyo under the Professional Training College program. Mr. Michael William Reiher of Kiribati has been awarded scholarship under the Research/Postgraduate category to study Civil Engineering at the Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Chuo University while Mr. Atufenua Maui of Tuvalu will enter the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering of the Kumamoto University also under the Research/Postgraduate category..
The Government of Japan Scholarship was introduced to Fiji in 1982 to promote human resources development and international exchange. Approximately 130 students from Fiji have been awarded with the scholarships since its inception.
The Embassy of Japan plans to announce the details of Year 2011 scholarship program in April. Four categories offered in the program are Research for Post-graduate, Undergraduate, College of Technology and Professional Training.
