Japan Provides New Fully Furnished Classrooms to Six (6) Schools

The Government of Japan continues to provide development assistance to the education sector, which benefits educational institutions in the Republic of Vanuatu. Six (6) schools will celebrate the opening of new facilities that were funded under the Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme.

The Second Secretary, Mr. Hiroshi Watanabe, on behalf of the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Masashi Namekawa will be at Lounahunu Primary School in Tanna Island on Friday, 24th February 2006 at 1:00p.m. to officially commemorate the opening of the six (6) new fully furnished two (2) classroom school building.
The schools which have been provided with the new facilities are as follows:

The six (6) schools provide education to children from the surrounding villages of its respective locations. The need for the new facilities was to ensure that the students attending the school are provided with better learning environment.

The Government of Japan under the GGP scheme provided a total grant of US$254,106.00 to the six (6) schools to cover the construction costs for the 2 classrooms block and the provision of new school furniture for the students and teachers.

Japan’s assistance to the school is in line with its Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy of prioritising projects that target the development of basic education in Vanuatu. The Government of Japan anticipates assisting more educational institutions in the Pacific Region in future.
