:: Press ReleasesJapan Provides New Facilities to Fatai Government Primary School The Government of Japan continues to provide development assistance to the education sector, which benefits educational institutions in the Kingdom of Tonga. The Fatai Government Primary School will celebrate the opening of new facilities that were funded under Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme. The JICA Acting Resident Representative in Tonga, Mr. Sato will be representing the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Kenro Iino at Fatai Government Primary School in Tongatapu on Friday, 15th July 2005 at 02.30 p.m. to officially open the new facilities. Fatai Government Primary School provides primary level education to over 150 students from the local area. The long term objective of this project is to ensure that the students of Fatai Government Primary School are provided with quality education and improved health and sanitation. The Government of Japan under its GGP scheme provided a grant of US$46,003.00 (approx. T$82,400.00) to the school to cover for the building materials and construction costs for the two (2) classrooms block, the eight (8) toilet units and one (1) 5000 gallon water tank. Japan's assistance to this school is in line with its Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy of prioritising projects that target the development of basic education in the Kingdom of Tonga. The Government of Japan anticipates assisting more educational institutions in the Pacific Region in future. |
