:: Press ReleasesJapan Provides New Classrooms to Chauhan Memorial School The Government of Japan continues to provide development assistance to the education sector, which benefits educational institutions in Fiji. The Chauhan Memorial School will celebrate the opening of new facilities that were funded under the Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme. The Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Kenro Iino will be at Chauhan Memorial School at Queens Road, Veisari on Friday, 17th June 2005 at 10.00 a.m. to officially open the four (4) classrooms building block. Chauhan Memorial School is a multiracial school providing education from classes 1 to 8 to over 250 students from the surrounding areas of Veisari. The school's old classroom building structure had depleted over the years and therefore upon request the Government of Japan provided funding to build new facilities. The Government of Japan under the GGP scheme provided a grant of US$47,304.00 (approx. F$80,000.00) to the school to cover for the building materials and construction costs for the 4 classrooms block. Japan's assistance to the school is in line with its Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy of prioritising projects that target the development of basic education in Fiji. The Government of Japan anticipates assisting more educational institutions in the Pacific Region in future. |
