The Handing Over Ceremony for “The Provision of Generator Parts” under Japan’s Economic Social Development Programme (ESDP) and “The Project for Installation of Workboats to Nivanga III and Manufolau” under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme.

On 31st August 2023, a Handover Ceremony for Japan’s Economic Social Development Programme (ESDP) and the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) was held at Funafuti Island.

H.E. Mr. KAWAKAMI Fumihiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Tuvalu, officially handed over 600kw generator parts worth approximately $1.7m AUD and two workboats worth approximately $242,000 AUD to the Hon. Kausea Natano, Prime Minister of Tuvalu.

The generator parts will greatly support Tuvalu’s population livelihood by providing consistent supply of power. Moreover, understanding the lack of mooring facilities in the 8 islands in Tuvalu, the workboats are expected to assist the two large vessels, Nivanga III and Manufolau by ensuring safe transportation services. The Hon. Prime Minister expressed his gratitude and was thankful for the continued support of the people and Government of Japan in Tuvalu.
