2025/8/27

On 27 August 2025, Mr. Rokuichiro MICHII, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji (Permanent Representative of Japan to the PIF), and Mr. Hirotsugu IKEDA, Chargé d'affaires of Japan to the Republic of Kiribati officially handed over a classroom building to William Goward Memorial College. The project was implemented under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), as part of “The Project for the Construction of the Building of William Goward Memorial College".
Prior to the commencement of the project, the school faced challenges such as a shortage of classrooms due to the increase in the number of students. Several classes had to be held in tents set up outdoors.
In response to theses challenges, the Government of Japan provided assistance totaling approximately AUD 150,000. The project included a furnished 3 classrooms school building. The new school building is expected to significantly enhance the learning environment and overall educational experience for the students.
Mr. MICHII conveyed his deep gratitude to all those involved in the project and remarked "I would be happy if this school building could contribute to nurturing leaders who will guide Kiribati toward a brighter future"
