Ceremony for the Landing of the East Micronesia Cable System in Nauru.

On 9 August, H.E. Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, the Ambassador of Japan to Nauru, attended a ceremony marking the landing of the East Micronesia Cable System (EMCS). Japan has been supporting EMCS under Economic Social Development Programme(ESDP) scheme.
The 2,250km cable will connect Nauru with Kiribati, Kosrae and Pohnpei, bringing faster, more reliable, and affordable internet to over 100,000 people.
 
Ambassador Michii congratulated Nauru on the achievement by EMCS and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting the enhancement of ICT and cyber security capabilities.
 
The USD 135 million project is supported by Japan, the United States, and Australia, reflecting our shared vision for prosperity, sustainability and inclusive future for the Pacific.
