On June 2, 2023, an Exchange of Notes was concluded in Yaren, the capital of the Republic of Nauru, between Mr. TANAKAKenichiro, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Nauru, and Hon. Pyon Deiye, Minister forInformation, Communication and Technology to the Republic of Nauru, for a grant aid of 1.50 billion yen to be funded under Japan’s “Economic and Social Development Programme,"
This is to support the installation of a part of undersea cable to the Nauru under the "East Micronesia Cable Project"., EMC project supports the installation of an undersea cable on the purpose of strengthening communication infrastructure and promoting new economic growth in the Pacific Island countries through the partnership with Australia, Japan and the United States in accordance with the requests of the three Pacific Island countries. This project will deliver faster, higher-quality, and more reliable and secure communications to more than 100,000 people across three Pacific countries.
