Signing of Exchange of Notes for the "East Micronesia Cable Project" under Japan’s "Economic and Social Development Programme" grant aid to the Republic of Kiribati

On June 5, 2023, an Exchange of Notes was concluded in Tarawa, the capital of the Republic of Kiribati, between Mr. IKEDA Hirotsugu, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Kiribati, and Hon. Tekeeua Tarati, Minister for Information, Communication and Transport to the Republic of Kiribati, for a grant aid of 2.40 billion yen to be funded under Japan’s "Economic and Social Development Programme,".
 
This  is to support the installation of a part of undersea cable to Kiribati under the "East Micronesia Cable Project". EMC project  supports the installation of an undersea cable with on the purpose of strengthen communication infrastructure and promoting new economic growth in the Pacific Island countries through the partnership with Australia, Japan and the United States in accordance with the requests of the three Pacific Island countries. This project will deliver faster, higher quality, and more reliable and secure communications to more than 100,000 people across three Pacific countries.
