Project Titles

Good Afternoon to you all,

It is my pleasure to represent the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Vanuatu, H.E Mr. Yutaka Yoshizawa, in formalising Japan’s funding assistance to four Education projects namely Vatuhangele Primary school and Vuigalato Primary school in Ambae, Fonteng School in Ambrym and Kamai Primary school in Malakula.

The Ministry of Education, over the years, tried to provide equal opportunity for learning, and good facilities for all the students in Vanuatu. However, the findings of current statistical report identified some 58% of Primary school buildings are in poor state. The Embassy of Japan is therefore, honoured to provide assistance to achieve the goal set by Ministry of Education in order to improve learning environment in Vanuatu.

The funding of these four projects was made possible through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Programme commonly known as GGP. Japan, since the inception of this programme in 1996 till 2010, has provided funding assistance to 85 projects around Vanuatu, of which, 39 projects are related Education sector. With this long history, Japan continues to provide support to developmental projects at the grass-roots level through its GGP Programme that is specifically designed to address basic human needs.

Today’s event demonstrates Japan’s firm commitment towards improving learning environment in Vanuatu. I am confident that these projects will ensure best of resources and equal opportunities available for children to accomplish academic excellence.

I am thankful that the Government of Japan was given the opportunity to fund these projects. The formalization of assistance to these projects is a clear manifestation of the bilateral friendship that exists between Japan and Vanuatu, and I am extremely confident that this bond will continue to strengthen.

Finally, since we have witnessed the thriving achievement of Education projects in the past which were provided through the GGP Programme, I believe these new projects will also be completed successfully, and serve its purpose to the people of Vanuatu.

Thank you
