- The Project for Construction of Classroom Facility for Fresh Water English Primary School
I am pleased to meet you all today and wish to thank you for the kind hospitality extended to me during this visit to your beautiful country.
Today, I am delighted to represent the Government of Japan in formalising Japan’s funding assistance to the three projects which include new two-classroom buildings for Vila North Primary School, Kawenu Primary School and Fresh Water English Primary School.
The funding for these projects is in line with Japan’s Official Development Assistance policy of promoting development at the grassroots level and is sourced from Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Programme. This programme is specifically designed to address basic human needs, which include basic education, health, water supply, vocational training, sanitary environment and rural infrastructure.
Japan believes that education is the key to prosperity and with increasing number of the population around Port Vila, it has become more difficult to admit all students entering the formal education system because of shortage of classrooms. It is hoped that our GGP scheme would resolve this difficulty in years to come. We all understand the importance of education. I am sure that investment in education will benefit not only individuals but also the community and the future generation especially in Vanuatu.
These assistances are also tokens of Japan’s goodwill and friendship to the Government and people of the Republic of Vanuatu and while helping development of these sectors, these assistances will contribute to strengthen the friendly ties between our two countries, Japan and Vanuatu.
I look forward to the successful completion of these projects, as it is my hope that, upon completion of these projects, the many people in Vanuatu will greatly benefit from the facilities in years to come.
Thank You. （Tankio tumas.）
