Project Titles

Good afternoon to you all.

It is my great pleasure to be here this afternoon, to represent His Excellency, the Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Masashi Namekawa, in today’s official handing-over ceremony of two new classrooms with furniture to the Vila North Primary School and the Fresh Water Primary School. I am deeply honoured and express my appreciation for your generous hospitality and the warm welcome extended to me this afternoon.

I believe that education is the key to prosperity, and also contributes to poverty reduction by improving the capacity of individuals to make a living. Thus, the Government of Japan has decided to make every effort to prioritize the development of basic education by improving and upgrading the facilities of a number of schools in Vanuatu.

As for both the schools, the rapid increase in the population of this region, has made it quite difficult to enrol all the children who wish to enter the Schools. Even they some of those who enrolled, were forced to use temporary classroom such as the school halls because of the shortage of classrooms.

It is hoped that our GGP programme would help resolve this difficulty in the years to come. We all understand the importance of education and that investment in the education sector such as this project will benefit, not only individuals, but also the community and the future generations.

To the teachers, parents and management committee of the Vila North Primary School and the Fresh Water Primary School, I am confident that you will provide the care and maintenance of the school facilities and equipment provided today and will allow the students to enjoy the best education at these schools in the years to come.

In conclusion, it is my hope that this assistance from the People and the Government of Japan will reaffirm our friendship with the People and the Government of the Republic of Vanuatu. With these few words, I officially open the new facilities and handover the equipment.

Thank You. (Tank yu Tumas.)
