Japan Provides Funding Assistance for Seven Projects in the Republic of Vanuatu
The Government of Japan will provide a total funding of 56.2 million VT for seven different projects in the Republic of Vanuatu through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme.

The Grant Contracts, formalizing Japan’s assistance, will be signed between Mr. Takeshi Tanabe, Chargé d’ Affaires at the Embassy of Japan and H.E Mr. Marcellino Pipite, the Minister for Education, and Mr. Christopher Ioan, the Director of Department of Rural Water Supply of the Republic of Vanuatu. The Signing Ceremony will be held on Tuesday 6th March, 2012 at 15:00hrs at the office of Embassy of Japan, Level 2 BSP Life Centre in Suva.

Japan’s assistance to these projects indicates its commitment to contribute to the improvement of the living standards and welfare of people in the Republic of Vanuatu and, is in line with its Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy of promoting development at the grassroots level. The GGP programme is specifically designed to address basic human needs, which include water supply, health, basic education, vocational training, sanitary environment and rural infrastructure. As of March 2012, Japan has approved seven projects with a total value of approximately 56.2 million VT under the Japan’s GGP Programme in the new Japanese fiscal year 2011, namely April 2011 and March 2012.

A total of 85 projects, valued at 468 million VT, have been funded under this program from Japanese fiscal year 1996 to 2010 in the Republic of Vanuatu.

It is hoped that this continuous assistance will reaffirm the friendly ties currently enjoyed by the Governments and the people of Japan and the Republic of Vanuatu.
