Good afternoon to you all,
It is my pleasure to represent the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Vanuatu, H.E Mr. Yutaka Yoshizawa, in formalising Japan’s funding assistance to the five school projects namely Saint Jeanne d’Arc school, Pango primary school, Tswingbege primary school, Tisman Center Primary school and Bonkovio school.
The Embassy of Japan is honoured to provide assistance to improve the learning facilities for the children of Vanuatu. A brighter future for the children and for this country can be achieved through continuous investment in education. Japan believes education is a formidable answer to today’s socio-economic problems. We all deserve to live in a civilised society, having good opportunities which place us on a better pedestal to become determined, hardworking and high achieving citizens. I believe these projects in five different schools will no doubt provide the deserving children of Vanuatu a better environment to study even harder and discover new frontiers.
The funding of these five projects was made possible through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Programme commonly known as GGP. Japan since the inception of this programme in 1996 till 2008, has provided funding assistance to 68 projects with a total value of approximately Three Hundred Forty Million Vatu around Vanuatu and out of these a total number of eight projects were approved this year with a total value of approximately Sixty Five Million Vatu.
With this long history, Japan continues to provide support to development projects continually at the grass-roots level through its GGP Programme that is specifically designed to address basic human needs, which include basic education, water supply, health, vocational training, sanitary environment and rural infrastructure.
I am confident that these assistances will contribute to strengthening the friendly ties between the government and the people of the Republic of Vanuatu and Japan
I look forward to the successful completion of these five projects, as it is my hope that, upon completion of these projects, the many children will greatly benefit from the facilities in years to come. In addition, I would like to thank the management and staff of Department of Education and Department of Strategic Policy Planning and Aid Coordination for their cooperation and support rendered to Embassy officials.
